To My Mama..

A senior thesis reflecting on the things my mother and women have taught me. This piece is done in Cinema 4D, cel animated in Photoshop, and composited in After Effects.

It means a lot to me since I find it so hard to express just how grateful I am for all of the women in my life, and I feel as though this piece achieves that while still having playfulness.

I also coordinated the senior show that was attatched to this project, as well as a bunch of other side projects for work/school, so being able to enhance my time management and leadership was another great learning aspect of this project.

I hope you enjoy! :)

Process

Using Cinema 4D, cel animation, and aftereffects to achieve the desired look.

Whether I was animating papers or 20 different girl's heads, a lot of work went into each shot that is only seen for a second.

Summary:

Some experiments I worked on while trying to decide the style of the project I would be working on for weeks! Mainly focusing on childhood, my thesis developed overtime to reflect on what made that childhood so special and the shift to what it taught me.

First Pass

Summary:

Storyboard and animatic phase was a blast! I do storyboards for a living, so its always something I'm confident in. I really liked this part of the process and it made ideation and script come a lot easier to me.

Second/Third Pass

Summary:

Second and third pass came with a lot of technical struggles, learning that I would have to use 3D to execute the types of shots that I had imagined.

But also, that those shots would need to LOOK like they were done in 2D! which as you can see above in the process videos, it was a combination of cel, after effects, and 3D!

Thank You! :)
